About these rates
Virginia counties, cities and towns set their own real estate tax rates each year. A rate of 0.805 means $0.805 per $100 of assessed value, or $805 a year on a $100,000 assessment. Independent cities such as Harrisonburg and Winchester collect their own tax and are not part of a county. A town's tax is charged in addition to the county's. The state publishes a yearly table of local rates, which we use as the reference where a locality has not published a newer figure on its own site: Virginia Department of Taxation, Local Tax Rates, tax year 2025.
Every row links to the page it came from. A row marked "Confirmed" was read from an official locality page for the year shown. A row marked "Verify" is the latest figure we could find, and the locality's Commissioner of the Revenue or Treasurer can give the current rate. Rates in this table may be out of date by the time you read this: check the source before relying on a figure.
